Consultant Comparison

Which consultant should I choose?

Once a decision has been made to pursue a soccer scholarship in the USA, many people search for a consultant who knows the ins and outs of the system and will be able to make credible introductions on your behalf.

Some factors to consider when selecting a consultant:

Placement – How many students have they successfully placed in the previous three years? In addition, what is the average cost of education for these students and can you have contact information for players/parents who the company have helped.

History – How long have the company been in this business? It takes many years to build up the expertise required to guide someone professionally and build up the connections and rapport with a wide range of US Coaches. Have the staff members actually studied in the USA and been through the US education system. For anyone who has, they will be able to give you the day to day insight and offer personal experience to give you the guidance you require.

In recent years the scholarship market has been swamped by recent start ups making all kinds of claims. It is important that you consider all of the factors above, to make sure you and your family are correctly guided at such an important time of your life.

Associations – Which reputable bodies in the UK are the consultant recommended by. For example, Pass4Soccer are recommended by League Football Education, English Schools’ FA, English Colleges FA, British Colleges Sport and She Kicks Magazine. The FA have one chosen body for football within schools and one within colleges. Pass4Soccer are the recommended Soccer Scholarship Consultancy for both of these organisations. League Football Education are responsible for education of boys age 16-18 associated with clubs in The Football League.

Transparency - Consultants should be happy to provide you with reference points or able to supply contacts for players in your area they have helped in the past. The costs should also be displayed clearly on their website. It is known that some consultants increase fees depending on the individual and family background.

Cost – Some perceive higher fees, with better service. We encourage you to ask questions regarding any service fees prior to attending any assessment events. Many consultants do not have their fees clearly displayed on their websites. At Pass4Soccer, we have built up our Network Program over 10+ years to make sure players and parents are given best advice that is value for money.

A scholarship can cover a small percentage of the university costs or right up to the full cost. This amount can range from as little as $15,000 per annum to $50,000 per annum. Over 4 years these scholarship amounts are worth at least $60,000 and $200,000 respectively. Based on an exchange rate of $1.33 to €1, our Network Fee therefore represents around 3% of the total scholarship value but could represent less than 1% of the total scholarship received. This is the reason why the difference of a few hundred pounds to a scholarship consultant should not be the most important factor. The most important elements are the overall service, credible introductions, access to a quality showcase and the scholarship you receive by working with an officially recommended consultant like PASS4Soccer.
